Abstract

Optimum conditions are described for HPLC determination of 1-hydroxypyrene with electrochemical detection (ED) giving the detection limit – 1.10–8 mol L1. This detection limit was compared with that for UV spectrophotometric detection (–1.10–7 mol L1) and fluorimetric detection (~ 5.10–10 mol L1). It was demonstrated that HPLC-ED can be used for the determination of 1-hydroxypyrene in urine down to 1.10–7 mol L1 and thus for biological monitoring of human exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
